Plantar Faciitis is inflammation, swelling and pain on the bottom of the foot, most commonly in the heel. The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue that runs from the toes to the heel and can be injured in a multitude of ways. Treatment is multifaceted and involves stretching, ice, footwear, custom orthotics, soft tissue therapy, laser therapy, taping and bracing. Long standing plantar faciitis can often lead to heel spurs. In extreme cases surgery may be indicated.
